Dear all
I have noticed a gamma shift (colours look washed up)after burning a dvd.
I did a search on the forum but I couldn`t find an "how to change gamma settings in dvd sp", That`s what I`m asking, but it is possible to change the settings within dvd sp?
Apologise if my question doesn`t make any sense
p.s. yes.. when I view the project on the timeline on dvd sp before burning the colours are as per project or as per timeline in fcp.

Antonio,
For best results use Compressor to encode your footage rather than using DVDP. Compressor will give you much more control over the encoding process, including altering the gamma setting if needed. I don't believe there are provisions to change the gamma setting in DVDSP prior to encoding.
Open Compressor 3, import your project file (or drag and drop) into the jobs window. Initially, this window will be called "Untitled". Go to the Settings window, navigate to the encoder you want to use, then drag and drop that right onto your project file. Now the Inspector window will become active for you to make changes to the encoding preset you've chosen.
Click on the Filters icon in the Inspector and scroll down the list to the gamma filter. Its default setting is 1.0. I suggest you try a setting of 1.1 to start. Do a test encode and compare the results. Use the gamma filter sparingly. Increasing the gamma setting will indeed saturate the colours more but the drawback is that it will also darken the overall picture. A gamma setting of anymore than 1.4 will make a huge difference in the brightness of your picture.
Of course, once you get used to using Compressor instead of letting DVDSP do your encoding you may find that you don't need to alter the gamma setting at all.

Don
Thank you I really apreciate your help!
I`ll make sure that tomorrow I`ll run a couple of tests.
I remember to have read in one of the posts (or heard on a training dvd) that the standard gamma settings for a dvd to be view on a standard tv (pal)is about 2.2 is this correct,or should just twickle the settings until I see what I need?

Antonio,
I know nothing about the PAL colourspace living here in North America, so I can't help you with your gamma question. I do, however, recommend that you choose the gamma setting that looks good to you. Compressor's default gamma setting of 1.0 and the possible PAL standard of 2.2 is a huge jump, and at least here in North America the picture would be way too dark. View your changes on a broadcast monitor (not your computer screen) to get an accurate picture. If you don't have a broadcast monitor at least look at the picture on a television that you trust to show neutral colour.
