Hello,

Hopefully i am wrong on my assesment of this issue.. but after quite a bit of searching around on the web..(without finding a solution) I am dissapointed in the ease of creating a DVD which both a Mac or PC person can access a weblink from the DVD..
After succesfully creating a DVD on the Mac, i tried the DVd in the Mac.. clicked on the weblink.. and Voila, the browser launches and it jumps right to the URL..
But moving the DVD over to my Windows XP machine.. no such luck.. and yes I know that there is a little file buried on the DVD in the DV@ccess folder after it is executed will enable the DVD to enable this same web access from the DVD.. But for me this is not a good soulution.. I will probaly be making at least 100 of these DVD's for my customer.. and i cannot expect each person to navigate to a folder on the DVD and run an executable file, so they can then be able to click on the weblink in the DVD to get to a website..This is a hassle and highly impractical..
Hopefully i am wrong and there is another answer??

Mike m.

OK Thanks..
Thats what i thought was going to be the answer..Hopefully this will be addressed as this is not very useful as is.. I guess it is the same deal for an e-mail link also??

I thought maybe somehow a small script could be run, when a DVD was loaded into a PC, which would automaticly check or run that small utility app, to make sure it would work.. i am not a coder.. not really able to tackle that whole deal..

Thanks,
Mike M.

You can always fiddle with an Autorun.bat or whatever they call it in the windows world these days but DVDSP's strengths and IMHO the DVD format in general do not lie with weblinks.

If you want reliable, cross-platform functionality like you are posting about, then your best bet is eDVD 4 from Sonic. Unfortunately it is a PC only application (to add ROM content, web links, email links, etc)--but it runs great on a PC (it will auto-install on a PC if the PC doesn't already have the IAP player installed, which many do already because the enging to drive the ROM content is used on Hollywood dvds). The flip side of your problem is that it won't autoinstall on a Mac, but the installation process is easy (at least easier than PC installation of the DVD@cess application).

If you're one of those that have run Boot Camp on a MacTel, then I can tell you from personal experience that eDVD 4 runs great in this manner.

Yes,

eDVD4 is authoring application independent. You have to follow a few steps in creating your project so it is prepared for eDVD 4, but otherwise you would create, build/compile your project to your HD. You would then use the video_ts produced in the process to emulate and add your links in eDVD4. You actually don't physically need the video_ts folder at all, but it helps to know exactly where the chapter and title set are for your links to launch, that unless you have done this a fair amount would be more or less a guess without it.

I did a review article on it at the cow here:

I have a link to a review/tutorial by Alex Alexzander that is a good primer before mine (he goes through the steps of creating an eDVD project with his review of eDVD 3; my review builds on to his).

eDVD is great but then you have the same problem reversed. EDVD won't automatically launch on Macs. However since most the corporate and consumer world uses PC's this isn't an issue. On the plus side eDVD is fairly easy to figure out in an afternoon.

I use eDVD 4 and it works great on most PCs. When a client need his DVD can be played on both Mac/PC, I use both eDVD 4 and DVD@ccess. This way, the user gets an autoinstall on PC if IAP isn't already installed and no install to do on Mac !
