Multi-layer DLT Breakpoints... I can't find it!!
by luciddreama on Apr 10, 2006 at 8:59:16 am

Hi there,
I seem to be having a problem with multi layer breakpoints while building onto DLT.
DSP 4 writes the DL DVD fine but when I tell it to build it on DLT keeping the auto break point selected after muxing it errors with format not successful blah blah blah breakpoint not appropriate

With 3 hours content on DVD it becomes extreamly tricky to find a suitable place for layer-break marker. DVD SP still has to see the return of layer-break indicator, that was originally a feature in Spruce Maestro that eventually evolved into DVD SP 2-4 with few original options missing.

There are 2 ways to deal with your situation. Both require a manual layer-break marker placement. One is proper bit budgeting procedure, that determines the placement of break-point prior to encoding assets. Obviously you are not in this position anymore.
Second is to determine an aproximate layer-break window and place dozen of temporary markers there. Make a new build (delete previous one). Click format button, and in formatting module look at the layer-break drop-down menu. All suitable markers would be black and selectable. Others will be grayed out. Once you found a marker that suits you, return to the timeline and remove unneeded markers. In the inspector set the layer-break marker designation. Make a new build, and you're redy to go to DLT. Check the archives. The procedure has been outlined quite a few times.
