 | Unwatchable dropouts on DVD SP encoded video

Hello,
Is anyone else having this problem ?????
I am experiencing major dropouts on MPEG encoded in DVD SP.
The dropouts are green in colour and exhibit as either a series of blocks
approx 24 x 24 pixels, or as a line approx 24 pixels high and for half the screen. It makes the Built DVD unwatchable.
My expermientation leads me to believe it is a problem with the G5 and the Apple MPEG 2 codec, butif so how ?
I have a couple of G5 2x2G, and a G4 1 x 700.
All OS are on external firewire ( thanks to Mr Bombich )
The problem exists on the following setups ( on different machines ):
Setup 1) G5 2x2G, Panther, QT 6.5 Pro, DVDSP 3.2
Setup 2) G5 2x2G, Tiger, QT 7 Pro, DVDSP 4
If I encode MPEG 2 in Cleaner on the same machines then the video is fine, however as I can't encode the menus externally they are still exhibiting the errors. Cleaner uses Mainconcept not Apple codec, so this is clearly the difference.
Yet if I take the same Tiger Hard drive from setup 2 and boot the G4 the video looks fine straight out of DSP.
Setip 3) G4 1x700, Tiger, QT7 Pro, DVDSP 4
The only conclusion I can draw is that the G5 and the Apple codec have a conflict. But Why ?
Any help appreciated.
Cheers,
Cubinda
