DVDSP4 Bad Encoding problems

Hello,
I have just upgraded to FCP Studio from FCP4.5 and have a heap of problems.
I have a PAL project all set up for SD.
When the assets encode they have huge blocky green, pink, white dropouts every couple of seconds.
These dropouts are either a bunch of blocks around 24pixels or are whole or half lines.
The source is from FCP uncompresssed and if I encode them with Sorenson no problem, smooth video, except that DVDSP won't import the Sorenson video files. AHHHHH.
I was going to try compressor but this threw an error about ' cant connect to background service', another problem to track down.
So I tried exporting MPEG 2 directly from FCP using QT conversion. When I do this it tells me DSP is not serialised so cannot use the function. DSP is serialized by the same serial that the FCP Studio installer requests. So What gives.
OK so now to Quicktime. There is no QT Pro serial number with the new box of tricks. Apparently it ships with the DSP, but haven't seen it with my purchase. If I try the old ones that came with FCP they dont work as they are QT6 serials.
maybe the key to the problem is QT serial, maybe not.
A frustrated list.
If anyone can help with the blocky encoding that may be a start.

First of all, if you're trying to use Sornensen's web video or mp4 codecs for DVD, well, no, they're not supported. There's probably a list of supported video formats somewhere in the DVD SP manual, which will probably include whatever codec is native to your FCP project.
2nd, it sounds like you may not have upgraded to Tiger & installed Final Cut Studio properly. If you search the FCP forum for "Tiger" and also for "upgrade" over the last month or so, you'll find half a dozen to a dozen posts detailing procedures that have been shown to work without causing problems like your "DSP is not serialized" messages.
Lastly, the "Unable to Connect to Background Process" is a well documented bug that effects some (but not most) users. If you search for it on the support section of Apple.com, you'll find a white paper that will help you fix the problem.

Hi,
sorry just posted the same problem today again. Using Decklink card to grab uncompressed video. Import to DSP4, result blocky and pixalating (best to see in dissolves!) using the SAME settings as in DSP3? Using Compressor result is even worthier????
I am working with MAC OSX 10.3.9. Is that the problem.
