by normco on Jun 30, 2005 at 7:45:44 pm

Hi,

I am making a layered menu. the manual says that the menu shoudl be 720x534. BUT when I put it is Studio Pro the buttons and type on the buttons looked a little crunchy .

I don't get this. Last time I had the smae problem, And somebody on the cow told me to use 720 by 480.

What should I use?

If you import a menu into DVD Studio Pro that is 720 x 534, DVD Studio Pro will crush it for you. It will become 720 x 480.

Remember that NTSC is a rectangular pixel aspect ratio compared to a square pixel aspect ratio on your computer. That means if you were to make a perfect circle in 720 x 480, it would appear as an oval in NTSC. To fix this, we make the same perfect circle in 720 x 534. We then crush it to 480, so that it likes crushed in the down direction. That way, when the NTSC television views this and stratches it, you get the perfect circle back.

Your manual wil detail how this works in the Pixel Aspect Ratio sections. You can look that term up in the index for more information.
