BitVice Bit Rates?

I am fairly new to DVD Studio Pro and very new to BitVice. I shoot in DVCam and am wondering what is the best bit rate for an hour production. I have been doing target 5.5 with a low of 3.5 and a high of 7.5. Am I in the ballpark for the best results?

If its only an hour I'd go with CBR at around 6 Mb/s

Thank you for the response. What should I be setting my spikes and lows at? Right now I have them at 3.5 for the low and 7.5 for the high.

when you encode CBR (constant bit rate) there is no need set a maximum or minumum. Your bit stream will be at or around the constant you set.

I am using version 1.6 (lite) of BitVice. In the settings and manual I don't see anything to do with CBR. Where should I be looking?

sorry...bitvice lite doesn't support CBR. To get the best results use a bitrate calculator (http://www.recipe4dvd.com/bitbudget.html). 3.5 is ok but 7.5 might be a little high. always use AC3 audio as well. it all depends on what your source video looks like. play around with settings and use the calculator.
