I do almost all my authoring on my Powerbook (17" 1.5 GHz w/ 1 GB of RAM) even make DLTs w/ a PCI to SCSI card. Encoding is slower then a Dual G5 but it can handle everything I need to do.

Unfortunetly I think the PCI card's days are numbered, it probably will not work under Tiger and since it is Adaptec no hope for a new driver.

The PCI card that I use to hook up the DLT drive is the Adaptec PowerDomain 1480. It was never supported under OS X but it has worked without a problem with their beta driver.

I often author on my G4 17" p/b (1.33GHz). It is absolutely fine for the job.
