Stabilizing Footage Contaminated With Camera Flashes
by Harry Kramer on Sep 13, 2008 at 10:55:31 pm

Hi - I have this problem all the time. Motion doesn't seem to fair much better for me. I shoot weddings and there are always still photographers popping off flashes. These flashes cause the footage to jump around the screen when I try to "stabilize" them. It doesn't seem to matter how many points I use. Is there a trick? Thanks for your help.

The flashes are just one-frame, right? Might be time-consuming,
but maybe you could pre-process the footage in FCP and replace
each flash frame with a duplicate of the previous frame.
That would eliminate the flashes completely.

Otherwise, in Shake, if you use a tracker instead of Stabilize,
there is a menu option for what to do when the tracker gets lost.
Can you tell it to refer to the previous frame? Or perhaps you
could manually force the tracker to skip to the next frame?

Just grabbing at straws here....hope it's useful.
