Invisible wall effect
by Fiorella Servetti on Jun 29, 2008 at 5:44:30 pm

Hello;
well I am writing in order to find answers about how to make this effect a succesfull one.

The effect I want to make its similarly at the one appears in Donnie Darko movie.

Some images yo can take a look.

I already download a macro in order to try it to make this macro:

http://www.highend3d.com/shake/downloads/macros/warp_displace/3617.html

But unfortunately a did not have any luck yet, so i am asking if you now something better to used in order to create the effect i want. I want the effect with largest ripples ahd that occupied all the screen.

Well looking forward for your responses .
Many thanks in advance.

Basically you're on the right track, I think you just need to really start tweaking the values of the macro to get what you want. An alternate way of creating these types of effects is by creating animated grayscale mattes in the motion graphics software of your choice and then using them as the BG images in an iDisplace node; this does give you some good control of what you're trying to create. In After Effects the radio waves filter could be a good start; in Apple's Motion I finally was able to tweak a particle emitter in order to get a good mimic of the "radio waves" effect, basically animated concentric circles that fade over time with a blur filter applied. There's also some interesting effects in the Shake "After Effects" macro bundle (also free) like glows and sparkles and stuff.

Thanks for your answer, it would be very useful for my effect.

now we replace the zam ripple, effect for the iDisplace, it seems easy to control, we only have to change the values of it.
