Dragging nodes/VERY NEWBIE
by M Divah on Oct 14, 2007 at 9:02:13 pm

I've just started to learn Shake, and have a very elementary question

I am trying to use the function of inserting nodes by dragging them to the connecting line between two other nodes. I understand that when the knots are highlighted you release the mouse button and the node is inserted. But when I drag a node, the knots disappear until I release the mouse. Obviously, I get no highlighted knots and am unable to insert the node this way.

Can someone tell me what I'm missing?

TIA,

Marilyn

which version of shake are you using? If you are using 4.1 you need to hold down the 'n' key to insert the nodes. you will see the input and/or outputs highlight.

This was a change from 4.0 where you could just drag and drop and the printed manual did not reflect this change.

Hope this helps.

M.

Thanks so much, Mark. That did the trick!

Do you know of any other major "gotchas" I should be on the lookout for?

Thanks again,

Marilyn

that was a BIG gotcha when 4.1 came out, a lot of us were scratching our heads, but the logic of it is sound when working in large trees. No other gotchas i can think of (in the way of things that differ from the tutorials/manuals).
