FCP/SHAKE WORKFLOW NEWBIE
by Micky on Oct 14, 2007 at 4:45:44 pm

When sending to Shake from FCP timeline and vice versa I seem to be encountering quite a few problems!

i.e. I have two clips superimposed on FCP timeline, one is the background and one is the DV PAL Chroma green screen footage. The DV footage arrives in shake with the node coloured red sometimes and other times it does not. The dv background is always ok. Can't figure it out?

When I have finished in shake with my composite I highlight the Shake-Out node at the bottom of the tree and then render file out node. When returning to FCP I then re-connect and it is sometimes ok or some of its attributes are missing. If it is ok I then go to the next edit on the FCP time line and send to shake and it will not even appear in the shake node view but it has done Shake.mov and a Shake shk. Can anybody help please?

Micky

Basically it sounds like you are writing over the file that Final Cut is sending to Shake and this is why its not sourcing it back. The send to Shake command in FCP is a little misleading because it's not as integrated as Motion. You need to render out a new QT from Shake and then import it back into the FCP sequence. I would suggest as a normal workflow that you do all of your editing first and then FX. The red node means there is a problem loading the file in node, think of it like a missing assest prompt in FCP. Start with these leads I'm giving you and see what you can find in the manual. If you haven't already I would suggest doing the Shake tutorials and check out FX PHD, that's how I learned Shake.
