Re: COW Tutorials: Apple Shake Keying 101: Light Wrap and Edge Blending - light direction tip

To add a sense of direction to the light wrap, throw an emboss node into the matte part of the tree.

Andrew,

i get what you are trying to do. but what node are you coming out with. I have my tree setup for keyed footage like this:

file in, then i have seperate dialate and erodes with blurs and keylights for garbage and holdout mattes then i put everything together with another keylight. When i preview that node i dont get the alpha view you get in your tutorial. i can follow everything by looking in my aplha view but when it comes time to multiply in the background everything goes off the rails. I think its a problem with the node i am putting into the light wrap group. What node should i be putting in??

Great tutorial, but thats the only thing, what was it you were putting in?

thanks,

jm

Hi JM,

I'm new to shake and got the same problem as you with the Andrew's tutorial.

I found the solution : on top of the light wrap group, you just have to add a "reorder" node with channels set to "aaaa".

Have a nice day,
Ludovic

Ludovic,

thanks so much for responding. This will definitely help in the future because since i couldnt figure out the light wrap i abandoned the idea of doing it in shake and exported my RGB+ animations over to AE and finished everything off in there.

Either way, thanks for the response!

Hi JM,

Always glad to help.

I had the idea to use the reorder node while reading another great tutorial on light wraping. It explains how to apply a directional lightwrap.
Maybe you'll like it :
