HELP!! Best way of doing backdrops for tons of blue screen footage.
by jujuelliot on Feb 14, 2007 at 5:35:19 am

I have tons of blue screen footage, the idea was to do all my backgrounds in motion. Is there anyway to export out of shake the final key of a talent but instead of a background behind them have a alpha channel so i can layer them over anything in programs such as motion, etc.?? Or if any of you advanced editors know a easier way for me to dive into my projects that would be greatly appreciated. I am only 20 and im trying to learn as much as possible, even the processes of creating a final product from blue screen.

Thanks,

Elliot Pollaro

Hey Elliot,
the first thing to do is to edit your bluescreen footage, find the clips that are going to work, and ditch the takes that don't (so you don't waste time keying and rendering them). Once you have selected clips go to work with your keying. You can of course render quicktimes (or image sequences) out of Shake and bring them into Motion (read up on file-out node and the supported file formats for more info there), but i have to say I'd be inclined to produce your backgrounds (in Motion, etc) render them out, and bring those into Shake. You will get the best control over your final composites in Shake at the end of the day (including grading, edge tweaking, etc).

Goodluck!
