Digital sets
by Zak Mussig on Jul 6, 2006 at 3:38:13 pm

I have an FCP system, Shake 4.1, a producer who is worried about the cost of the set she's designed, and a big sound stage with a green cyc...
I'm rolling around the idea of pushing for digital sets on this project, most of which will be in one location (a restaurant).

What are the pros and cons (besides having to take the time / effort to add in the set) to using something like this? We're looking at footage that will have a good amount of motion in it (dolly shots, pans, etc.).
Anyone had any experience doing something like this?
Generally...
What do we need to have set up before we shoot?
What special or specific things to we need to do during the shoot?
I'm particularly concerned about matching the direction and intensity of the lighting.
Can I just use the trackers in Shake to get some kind of map of the motion in a shot?
How do I integrate motion information with the 3D (we have Maya, but no 3D person at the moment)?

Thanks for any help or guidance,
Zak
