De-halo eg for DV with too much edge enhancement ?
by David Esp on Nov 1, 2009 at 6:02:48 am

Any way to use BorisRED for de-halo-ing eg for low-grade DV having too much edge enhancement ? Like when an object is against a bright background and gets an excessive black edge around it. Any way to remove the edge as much as possible while preserving proper detail?

Ideally looking for something similar to the specialist AviSynth filter I currently use, that recognizes such features and hence doesn't blur the rest of the detail, but would prefer to do everything in Boris if that were possible.

Hi David,

Would it be possible for you to send me a couple of frames that illustrates the problem that you are trying to solve? I believe I understand the issue but it would be much easier for me to say this for certain if I have a few frames from you that I can work with. You can send them to me here: peterm@borisfx.com. If the file is more than a couple of Mb then it would be best to use FTP instead of email. We use yousendit.com ftp service - you can use this for free to send up to 100 Mb.

Thanks,

Peter.

Many thanks Peter, I've sent you two 16-frame DV clips, one with halo/ringing and the other my best effort at enhancement to date.
