Nesting Extruded Splines in AE using BCC6
by Jose Gonzalez on Jun 16, 2009 at 11:23:14 pm

Using AE CS4 and BCC6, I created a rectangular 3D "platform". I would like to nest that comp within another so that I can have a camera fly through multiple instances of this platform.
However, when I bring it into another comp it loses its 3D. I have tried precomping, and even turning on collapse transitions button in the final comp. Not sure what I am doing wrong?

I am using a camera in the Final Comp. Do I need one in the precomp as well?,

THANKS.

Hi Jose,

Well, After Effects is a 2.5 D compositing solution, and if you precomp then you lose the ability for full 3D in that precomped layer. The only way to do what you want is to keep all of the 3D layers in the main comp, where you are using 3D cameras, avoiding the use of precomps.

Cheers,

Peter.
