Are Apple Loops Royalty Free?
by Jesus Ali on Oct 20, 2009 at 5:59:35 pm

Hello Everyone,

I used the Apple Loops in STP 1.5 to create the background music bed for a video that I posted online.

The video has done well and Youtube has asked to "monetize" it, but they want me to assert that I have the rights to all music and imagery before they'll go through with that.

Does anyone know Apple's policy on using the Apple Loops? I've certainly recognized them from commercials, but did the companies pay to use the loops in those commercials?

Thanks for any solid info!

Jesus

The loops and effects that ship with FCS are yours to use in any production you like.
The only thing you can't do is re-sell the sounds on their own.

Aha, that jibes with what I found. Thanks!

Beware that many folks use these loops, so your work will likely not differentiate as much as you like.

Once I used some nice violin loops on a short film, only to find out that the next film that was screened after mine had used the exact same sound bites : (

[Morten Ranmar] "Beware that many folks use these loops"

An understatement indeed! I hear the FCS supplied music and loops daily on TV. Once even the same track back to back on two different commercials.

Then again it's not as bad as the amount of commercials I see on local TV that use only slightly altered Motion templates.
