removing echoes from a clip

Hi, I've got an audio clip that was recorded in a gymnasium, so there's quite a bit of echo when the person talks. Can anyone provide me with tips/advice on filters/effects that can reduce or remove the echo?

You're stuck with the echos...sorry.

You could TRY to use a gate with a slow release time, but I think it would be too noticeable.

How closely-mic'd was the talent?
