Saved files don't sound like master

I am a Sound Track Pro newbie, thanks for any help. I imported a stereo .wav file, made edits, added slight eq and slight reverb to each track, then saved the file. When I listen to the edited file in Soundtrack Pro, it sounds great. When I play back the saved file in a standard audio program, it sounds terrible. The balance (stereo mix) is wrong, the reverb is 10x too much, etc. What am I doing wrong? Do I have to "flatten" all the effects before saving in order for them to save properly? I would also welcome any recommendations for the best tutorials or training dvd for this program.
Thanks.

You should definitely renter to action and flatten before saving, but this wont always give you the desired result. STP has quite a few quirks I'm hoping have been addressed in the latest version.
One of the issues with ver2.02 is reverb occasionally resetting itself to default settings when you render the effect to action resulting in WAY to much reverb. The trick is to render, then uncheck the render, re-adjust the reverb effect, then render again. Then play back in STP to make sure it is working right.

I wish it worked better.
The quickness and ease of "sending" from FCP is huge for me. But STP (up to ver 2.02) has proven quirky and unreliable, especially on long-form projects.
I still use it for quick EQ's and simple mixes because of the speed and ease of round tripping, but export OMF's and TC Burned vids to Protools for anything big.
Waiting on a couple projects to wrap up before I can install the latest STP offering in FCS(3) on my tower and really dive into it. Hoping it has become more stable.
