Soundtrack Pro corrupting files - FCP can't reconnect/import

Hello All,
I am having trouble with STP yesterday and today. I typically roundtrip from FCP to STP using the "Send to.../Soundtrack Pro Audio File Project" and save the files referencing the source audio (DV clips). Normally, FCP creates a new audio clip in the browser when it exports the file, and when I save and close my project in STP, FCP automatically picks up the updated file.
Yesterday FCP began not recognizing any new projects from STP. The clips FCP created upon export to STP are offline when I go back to FCP. I can try to manually reconnect the media, but the reconnect window just hangs. I can cancel it, but it won't take the file. If i delete the offline stap clip from FCP's browser and import the stap file myself, I get a File Error message: "1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown." It seems that the whole problem only happens when I apply a process effect in STP (i.e., I can convert a stereo file to mono and round-trip without problems, but if I run a compressor or limiter on the clip, i get these problems.)
Solutions? I have noticed in the .stap packages that there is a render.mov (the one that FCP is always cryptically asking for when reconnecting any stp file). in most projects, render.mov is about 28k, but in the ones that FCP is having trouble with, the render.movs are 4k. Is there something being corrupted either as STP applies effects or as it saves?
I am running FCS 5.1 (STP 1.1) with the latest updates installed on a G5 DP 2.0GHz, 5 GBRAM, OSX 10.4.9. Trashing both FCP and STP prefs has not helped.
