I have a HMV-U320S-1.6TB that I'm carrying over from an Avid system to a FCP system. It's hooked to a MacPro with an Atto ULD5 card. Do I need to partition this (or even can I?). I striped the drives. It's a basic question I know, but I'm used to seeing the partitions on my old Avid system. I just want to make sure I'm getting started right. Thanks.

Hello Scott:

On the Avid, partitioning (currently) is required, however in FCP, it isn't. Striping is accomplished through the Apple Disk Utility. It does not support striped partitions (slices) currently. Click on one side of the array, then on the upper right, click on the RAID tab. There's a large open white area - drag both channels of the array into this area. At the top, you can name the stripe set -- make sure it says "Stripe" instead of mirror. Then at the bottom, click the Create button, and you should be all set.
