Hi,
just a few weeks ago I had some trouble with the HMV-4105. I wrote here to the forum and could get my HMV back with DiskWarrior.
Because at this time I had only a 2GBit Apple FC Adapter, I changed to a the Atto 4GBit Adapter 42XS.
In the meanwhile I do more SD work with no high datarates, until yesterday.
Then I got a problem again. During playback of HD material (100MB/s) Final Cut hangs and I got the well known 3 short / 3 long Beeps from the HUGE Raid.
I had to restart the system, but the Raid could be mounted again, but now it was not possible to playback again without dropped frames, the Blackmagc Disk Speed Tool says that there are only 110MB/s read/write speed. And the beeps again...
I restarted and the copy all the data to another disk. When the HMV was empty, I do the speed test again. Same results. Then I reformated the raid and now get 205 MB/s read and write. This is enough for me, also the advertisement says something of 250-300MB/s.
I just wanted to know if this is an indicator of a problem that still exist, because performance is not at the optimum.
I just wanted to be sure that the raid now works fine, because always copying the data and using DiskWarrior is no fun at all... and I juts wanted work with it.
Thanks in advance - Sven

Hi Lance,
back from IBC, now going on to find the problem.
I do a read and wirte test by the serial connection for each drive, but only the first sector. There was always a read performance of around 61 MB/s and a write performace of around 57MB/s.
So the drives in a single test seems to be good. Or do I have to test the whole drives?
Afterwards I reformat the unit and erase it again within the the Macintosh Disk utility, then I test it again with the BMD disk speed tool. And I get 230 MB/s read and 210 MB/s write. This is not bad, should I still worry?
I also check the frimware of my Atto 42XS. I think it is the newest one "v1.1.0" / driver 2.1.0
Then I see in the knowlege base a topic that there is a new firmware "00b2" available wich resolve the issues withebeeps and unmounting, that looks like the solution I am waiting for. Unfortunatelly I can not download it, because there is still only a link to "00b1".
Could you give a link where I can download it?
Or any other things I can do?
More then the speed, I need a reliable system. Don't want to use diskwarrior again...

Hello Sven:
The first % is not sufficient to give an indication of whether or not there is a slow drive -- you have to run all %'s...I'd recommend doing a RAID 0 read on drives 1 thru 5. It's possible that a single sector somewhere is slow, and it is more likely that the slowness will be towards the inner diameter of the disks...
