Strange Beep
by Erik J on Sep 6, 2005 at 12:08:11 pm

Hi!
I have a HUGE Raid connected to my FCP4.5 system.
It's working like a dream.
However, today when editing, there was a beep from the raid, the timeline froze for a couple of seconds and then unfroze again.
So, no harm done, but what happened?
The raid is not nearly filled yet, and all connections are ok.

Anyone?

Thanks,
Erik

Hello Erik:

Are you sure it was 1 beep? That may not be good. It sounds like a drive fast-failed over (and you are probably in RAID 3). This means that for some reason, the drive momentarily went offline, then came back online again. If it happens again, you should probably get the drive replaced.

Hi Lance and thanks for your quick response.
Yes, it was 1 beep, and you got me worried now!

Are there any diagnostic tools I could use on the raid to determine if I have a major problem?
I don't want to do anything to make a potentially bad situation even worse.

I would really appreciate some assistance since I am an editor an not a technician.

Thanks a lot!
