SD Material on Blu-ray
by Andrew Golden on Jul 31, 2009 at 1:19:40 pm

Has anyone had any experience incorporating SD material on a Blu-ray disk. I know the format allows for it but I haven't been able to find much on the process for actually putting SD content on a Blu-ray without upconverting the SD to HD first and taking up more space and bandwidth than the SD material needs.

Thanks for the advise.

Andrew

Blu-ray supports all SD video content except 23.976 fps. Simply import the asset, put it into its own timeline and you should be all set.

Yes, I have had experience mixing SD and HD content on a Blu-ray disc authored in Encore. SD content was already transcoded to MPEG2 DVD, and HD content was transcoded to h264. Encore will not re-transcode SD mpeg2 files. As Joe mentioned, make sure the SD content is placed in it's own timeline.
