DVD Menu Help
by Mike Hoffman on Jun 25, 2009 at 9:53:55 pm

A client gave me an already made DVD that includes a menu and two movie clips. He wants me to make a bouncing basketball graphic to add to whatever button is selected on the menu. Now, I've done a lot of searching and found tutorials for animating menus but they all used static psd images. This menu I'm working with is an mpeg copied off the DVD. Is it possible to add animation to it? I'm using Encore CS4 by the way.

So, the tutorials told you how to create animated menus, correct? I'm assuming you got animated menus working, but are stuck on how to make the button have a bouncing ball. If you are still trying to figure out how to have animation, either review the tutorials or follow-up.

The trick here is that you need two menus. One with the bouncing ball on the first button (Menu A), and one with the bouncing ball on the second button (Menu B). Then, when the user is on Menu A and selects the other button, you have to have that button 'auto-activate' to Menu B. Make sure you do the same thing in Menu B when transitioning to Menu A. A 'problem' with this solution is that there will be a slight pause as you move to the new menu and any soundtrack or background animation will restart as you switch between the menu pages.
