"Shimmering" Effect on settop TVs from all Encore Output?
by herojig (phoenix studios) on May 4, 2006 at 5:11:22 am

Hi all, pardon this if it's a dumb one, but output from Encore shimmers on my test TV/DVD player here. It's not a flicker or frame skip or anything like that, it just has a shimmering effect. Know what I mean? It's across the board, menus, transcoded and non-transcoded, the whole ball of wax. Is there a way to fix this? Other DVDs (commercial) do not display this effect. Something to do with RGB/Broadcast colors? The DVD looks great on a PC flat screen. Thanks!

Can't be sure without seeing it, but that sounds like interlace flicker? Are you sure that all your settings were correct when you brought them into encore? Not sure if Nepal is upper or lower field first, but that could be the problem.

Check for thin horizontal lines and sharp edges in your menus and video. Those things will cause a shimmering effect in interlaced video, because the lines/edges are only being displayed in one field and not both.
