AE & XDCAM - How?! (Mac)
by Daniel Winter on Jun 21, 2008 at 8:10:24 am

Some fellow students took some shots with an XDCAM of the city and I need to manipulate them in AE. I don't know if they did anything to them after uploading them from the cam, but they opened fine on their mac.

When I try to open them in QT on my MacBook, all I get is a black screen and the audio. When I try and open them in XDCAM Transfer, it cannot detect any XDCAM files. Similarly, Flip4Mac XDCAM doesn't work either.

I've tried putting them into FCP and exporting the files, with the hope they'll export to a readable format but I just get an error.

According to finder's Info, all the files are encoded to XDCAM EX 720p25 in .mov (original format MPEG HD).

What should I do to get the files to open in QT and AE?

Thanks!

You'd need to install latest versions of QuickTime and FCP and the Sony plugins. Or simply have them re-export as TIF sequences, Animation codec or ProRes .MOV.
