Just remember that you don't always have to go through FCP, if that part gets a little confusing. It might make sense to just do the clips individually, but the FCP round trip sure saves a lot of steps. Not all of the Shake tutorials are necessary, but make sure to do the basics so you can lean the basic interface and how to get stuff in and out of Shake.
