Re: Color Warper trashes settings on scene save... by Danko Dolch on Mar 2, 2009 at 9:00:54 am
Yes - I can export the color warper settings and reload them after reopen the workspace - but that isn't a viable workaround because the workflow would become to slow through this...
Is there anybody out there who can use the color warper with 10bit or more without problems? Just want to be sure that's not a general bug...

Danko,
there is many problems at Combustion 2008 regarding 10 bit footage!
i faced serious problem on 3 machines (so it is lack of the S/W)with 10 bit exported footage form FCP..
i couldn't see my footage on C*2008 i gives me the footage as non signal of UHF..
the solution for me was to do my work on C*3..and sacrifice all new features added into later versions..
SO i suggest you to achieve your job using another technique i used to publish tutorial for here in the COW..
i hope it can achieve you the same result but it will take little more time!

Hi Ayman,
Oh really? Even problems with loading footage? You are workling with the MAC version?
Strange... We had no problems with 16bit TIFF, 10bit DPX, an also Quicktime PRORes HQ & Avid DNXHD is working on PC...
If you have a small footage sample I could check this with our machines...
To a possible workaround - I don't see one:
1. I need the color warper to get the job done in time (all other workarounds are too slow to setup)
2. I have lots of cuts in the edit node to color correct - need the color warper histogram - the sample point plot in the vectorscope and so on...
I just bought the 2008 upgrade to get the color warper...
On the Autodesk site is no contact published for bug reports - so I don't even know how to report this...

this was two months ago..i deleted all the footage :(
It was blackmagic 10 bit..
i guess Autodesk should give care to combustion...
2 days ago i was at CABSAT Dubai-it is biggest media exhibition in middle east-. Autodesk booth their was making demo for (smoke, flame,Maya, many others ..& nothing about combustion.....)
about bugs u cant contact support..
but i feel it is useless cuz they don't care about any future upgrades.. this is my opinion..i wish am wrong.
"...this was two months ago..i deleted all the footage :(

Oh thats a pity - are you on mac? There are file format problems reported. For the PC version it works fine so far. I can work with Blackmagic 10bit quicktimes after installing the Blackmagic Codec.

Same situation here in Germany - at Games Convention there was a Autodsk booth operated by Autodesk sales partners - I asked for combustion - no we havn't to show - I asked for Toxik (it was promoted on the invitation) - no we can't show - finaly I got a Fusion tour at the Autodesk booth...
I think we have the following situation:
1. Market goes stronger and Autodesk M&E is focussing on dev. the system products, 3D animation packages and the new compositor Toxik
2. The Toxik dev. team is the combustion dev. team - as long as Toxik needs all ressources to get ready - nobody cares about combustion.
3. Think they want to sell Toxik to everyone to earn money - but if they would promote combustion too - people would wonder:
- Hmm - Combustion has the better Rotopainting - has the color warper - has an edit node - has an audio track...
Why should I buy Toxik if there arn't the same functions and you don't plan to integrate it in future versions?
People say Autodesk isn't making monney with combustion... ok maybe but: As a professional company they have to care of their customers!
And it would be very easy to make the customers happy:
1. If it's only that they havn't enougt dev. to drive both application the same time - simply tell us that you want to get current combustion features into future Toxic version - bundle combustion as a addition to Toxik and give us combustion users a upgrade option to Toxik...
Than they could concentrate on Toxik and get most of the combustion users to upgrade to a much more expensive product...
"...about bugs u cant contact support..
but i feel it is useless cuz they don't care about any future upgrades.. this is my opinion..i wish am wrong..."
I only want to get this 10Bit thing working... bought the 2008 upgrade for about $640 without taxes only to get the vectorscope and color warper - I want to get it working as promoted...
I'm not happy with the current situation - but if color warper works I have the time to look for upcoming software solutions if Autodesk don't like combustion any longer...

Hi Alex!
Can you save 10bit Color Warper settings? Yes or no?
I have to grade and finish 3-45min 1080p25 10bit material coming in via edit node. The material typically contains more than 30 shots - most of them have their individual CC, matching and grading settings combined with blur/sharp/grain management/titles/VIZ/VFX...
If one workspace becomes to large I have to split it into multiple ones but as long as workspace size is under 100MB everything is fine...
Have finished projects longer than 1h in past this way (Framecycler PRO does the job of realtime playback of the uncompressed output) - even if this is hardcore with combustion and audio makes problems on such long projects...
But now I have to switch from 8bit to 10bit (8bit is no longer accepted by the clients and it realy makes no sense to grade REDOne projects in 8bit) and color warper settings becoming corrupt after saving the workspace.
This is the first time I see a combustion component isn't working with high bit deep - and it's just the one needing it so much :-(
But to be correct it's not the ColorWarper itself - it's the way it's settings are saved to the workspace file...
What can I do? Is there anybody out there ever thout about editing DigiBeta HDCAM DVCPRO HD or REDOne footage with combustion and so needing 10bit???

Hi there,
I just encountered the exact same problem on my project.
It is a show stopper.
I am totaly surprized by this,
Color warper not being operational for bit depth higher than 8 is a total joke!
(a sad one)
I tried a Toxik evaluation,
Very sexy interface, feels like a concept demonstration of the future combustion,
but imatuer, keeps crushing, and some nodes dont work,
There is no way I'm switchung to that in the near future!
I wish they would see how bad is neglecting combustion.
