Combustion not Vista friendly?

I recently upgraded to a new pc and noticed that when I installed and used my seat of C4, that I got some funky behavior that didn't occur on my old system. The new PC has Vista 64...yes, I have the latest ATI drivers...on a new Radeon 4850. The older system was XP Pro x64.
When I try to set my Timeline controls as a floating box (like Workspace or Toolbar), it crashes when I try to open a Combustion Workspace (even a new workspace file). Took me a while to find out that was what the source of the problem was.
The other funky behavior is when I load a Particle Operator or even select it, not only does it take a few minutes to think about it, but many of the buttons and portions of the interface white-out. In fact, I can't get any viewport feedback (like seeing the footage underneath so I can see precisely where I want to place the emitter), or the path it's to be animated on.
It also seems more crash prone in general. The same behavior happens when I installed the 2008 trial.
Anyone experienced similar problems and found any solutions, maybe?

Vista doesn't like anything that uses the old Scheme. I would personally tunr off Aero at home, but I got tired of all my Max windows going White. The fix was to enable Aero. So I think that part of your problem is lazyness on microsofts side, or an attempt to force developers to make stuff vista compatible.
I have used combustion on my Vista x64 laptop and haven't seen the slow downs that you mention, but who knows what the cause could be. I would try changing the vid card drivers and check you opengl settings in the combustion preferences.
Otherwise I don't have any information that will help.

ATI just released new drivers and I tried that but the only thing it improved was that there was no longer the white-out of the controls.
Nevertheless, it still takes roughly 2 min+ for Combustion to think about it, before it decides to reveal the controls...but the viewport stays blank whenever the particles operator is selected.
I can't see my emitter icon or where to place it. It seems that it just doesn't like Vista (what's new?).
