Circular Camera Path
by Heath Firestone on Jan 17, 2009 at 4:22:02 am

Hey Guys,

I have been creating a circular camera path by creating keyframes at equal distances from a center point at 60 degree increments, then using cubic interpolation to make the path more round that it is using other interpolations. The problem is, it still isn't perfectly circular, so I get a slight dolly in/dolly out effect. I want to create a perfectly circular path. Is there a way of doing this with the expression browser, and if so, how. The expression browser isn't my strong suit.

Thanks for any help you can provide,

Heath

Heath...

try this:

create a Null, offset its Z from the camera, then make it the camera's parent.

If you then rotate the Null on Y you should get a perfectly circular path for the camera, (like an orbit)

and you can still rotate the camera freely or target it towards your focus of the scene.

Does that help?

Hi Alex,

I get what you are saying. That should work. I'll try it next time I get on that computer.

Thanks!

Hey Alex,

That worked perfectly. And here I thought it was going to require coding or some math operation.

Thanks,

Heath
