render fails -c*2008
by ron norris (Ron Norris) on Jun 10, 2008 at 1:35:29 pm

Hi all, been on PC for years, just changed to mac and c*2008. Loaded c*, set up a simple move on a still, rendered in QT-pro-rez422 and the render came out basically colored dots all over the screen. I tried to re-render, and everything I try now just fails. I tried all of the QT codecs... render fails. I can render out tga files and that works. I'm on OS10.5.2, 8 core, 8 g ram, kona3. I called discreet, they had no clue. Thanks in advance for the help.

My guess would be a QTime version incompatibility. Can you roll back (or roll forward) a couple of point releases? i.e., if you are using QT 7.5, try 7.2 or vice versa.

Jeff, thanks for the help. The version I have is QT 7.45. I was told by my VAR to get that for the FCP, Which version are you running?

I'm using 7.2, but on an XP system (C* 2008). QTime and Combustion has never been a great match. Most grazers here would recommend you render to file sequences anyway, for a variety of reasons, then use QTPro or something else to compile to ProRez. Try PNG sequences; they are lossless, but efficiently compressed. Test first, as some odd gamma issues come up in certain workflows. They work great for me.
