I've Had It...

Now C4 seems to be unable to save a recovery workspace properly. After re-opening the program, the recovery CWS that was available was an old one from a couple of weeks back. I love this program more and more every day.

I bought Shake and I am getting to know it.

Need an alternative to C4 'cause it is pretty awful.

BUT

While doing the Shake Tutorials it did crash about 3 times in one long day. So .. waddya supposed ta do??

Same with Motion. IT is crude but will do many of the things I used to use Combustion for.

Good luck man. I know how ya feel.

I know... it seems they all have their particular issues. I guess the only way to get any work done is to buy a license for everything and bounce around from app to app!

In my experience with software constant crashes are usually related to a few things 1)Corrupt config files, 2)Corrupt scene files, 3)3rd party tools. Have you tried deleting or renaming your configuration files? Have you tried merging the scene into a new scene and saving it as a new version? 3rd party plugins crashes can usually only be fixed by having the lastest version or removing the tools. What are the reproduction steps to the crash? Does it always crash at the same point/step? Have you tried working around that point/step?

Oh, I'm used to the crashing, that's not what I was complaining about. I think I must delete my config files once a week at this point. My workspace had quite a few layers and plenty of text... I was building a web page fly-in, so I expected some crashing (sad, really). I think it crashed like it does most of the time when I switch to best mode from preview. My issue here though, is with the fact that C asks me if I want to save a recovery CWS, and then can't even pull that off successfully.

About that recovery workspace problem : we found that we have to delete the old ones before saving on a crash. C seems unable to overwrite on an older backup, at least here.
Sometimes we get a corrupted RecoveryWorkspace.cws.tmp . You can try to rename it to .cws. That worked for me in a couple of occasions, but most of the time the workspace file is truncated, resulting in unuseable data.
On a daily basis, we don't find Combustion to be more unstable than other applications though, and we push it hard with SD and HD content. That said, we don't work with a lot of text or particles ; I guess I would see things differently otherwise.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for that... I'll try to remember to delete old recovery workspaces and see if that helps. I'm sure other apps all have their flaws too. I think I'm just stuck right now using C for text and titles, which unfortunately is (IMHO) its weakest feature.
