Log or Linear?
by pelham123 on Jan 29, 2007 at 10:59:28 am

I am compositing a movie using DPX files and have been reading up on forums and books. I have found conflicting advice whether the files should be in Log Space or Linear when actually being composited. Can anyone give me a difinitive answer?

cheers

Garth

It really depends on what you will be doing. If you plan on doing any math functions such as multiply and other various composite modes you should convert to linear. If you will just be rotoscoping and doing opacity blends then no need to convert.

ps make sure you do your conversion correctly or you will damage your files.

thanks Alan

rest assured I will be keeping a close eye on the conversions that and getting the right apertures and aspect ratios are what I am worrying about most
