Hey, I'm using Combustion 2.1 on a Mac, but when ever I try to import an H.264 file the program crashes. Everything else works fine, any suggestions would be great.

Thanks
Simon

Hi Simon...

H264 is a pretty recent innovation w/ regards to QT is it not?

May be that the older version of combustion can't handle decoding that type (which I think is an MPEG variant is it not)?

you may got o QT Pro and converting to a legacy codec prioir to importing to combustion....I know it's annoying, but ti should work...

I can't confirm, but my understanding is that you'll need to have Tiger and Quicktime 7 PRO to work with H.264

And that won't guarantee success with C2.1, just with Final Cut Studio.

FYI: On PCs, Nero Recode provides an H.264 codec (released Dec. 2004) that not only works well but is significantly better than the current QT7 H.264 codec (on either platform), according to one geeky top encoding expert I have come to trust after several years of seeing him be right.

Anyone know when the first consumer HD-DVD players will/would be hitting retail shelves? I've not bothered to research.

Are you referring to the new upcoming high-capacity blue-laser disks? If so, too early to tell.

If you are referring to DVD players that can play an H.264 encoded DVD-5 or DVD-9, there are a few out already.
