hi, we just upgraded to C4 and our machines are running very slow comping HD frames ( 1280x720)

looking for any advice on a pro-quality card that runs C4 + maya well


ps does discreet/autodesk have a list of approved cards?

hmm, we've got quadro4 750 XGL cards at the moment...2 gigs of ram....guess they're older cards. or we need to seriously downrez/turn everything off when we're working

Hi,

The Quadro4 750 XGL is a good card but it is a couple years old and in this industry things become dinosours pretty quick. For the work you are doing you should look at the NVidia FX series. depending on what you want to spend look at the 1300 and up.

... but don't forget: the card has no effect on *computing* a comp. OpenGL can help if you are previewing translation and scaling (and using OpenGL display), but does nothing to speed up operators. I did an HD 1080 job last month (with a Quadro980), and learned to love "draft" mode...

there may be some exceptions to this; I expect I'll be corrected if needs be ;>)

Hi,

Another workflow tip: using proxies is highly recommend. Then remember to set your render setting to best in the render queue and all proxies will be automatically switch to the high res footage during the render.
