Hi All:

I would like to know if this is possible in C3. I need to create an animation for a music video of setting a farm field on fire. The whole thing will be 3 seconds. The plate is locked on legs and it basically follows 2 chaps lighting a bonfire. It then goes out of control and the fire goes crazy burning everything around them.

Would the particles in C3 be up for this? I have a feeling it might be too much for C3.... Is it possible to create this effect in C3 and looking photo-realistic? May be particle illussion? Other 2D app? Should I get a 3D guy and create the fire in Max or Maya?

Cheers

Sam

HI Samuel,

Depending on the shot and the desired effect you can achieve this with combustion. If you have someone who can do this in 3D the end result could be better and your part will obviously be easier. It is very difficult to give direction and help with out seeing the shot.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with the particles in combustion but keep in mind your have control over each shape within the emitter and the control for the emitter itself that will affect all the shapes.

I would use some fire footage from artbeats, but keep in mind that a fire creates a LOT of smoke. that smoke you could either do in combustion or in 3D. its 10% fire and 90% smoke, as seen here in picture 17 on this site :http://www.pasturegolf.com/archive/range.htm

just a side note:
doing sfx like this is not aiming at realism, but is playing more with the audiences perception of realism. that's a big difference.

Thanks guys. The shot is a locked off shot on legs, Wide shot and the guys run off as soon as the fire starts. The guys want it on 2D and nothing 3D. I will create several quick fire effects spread over the shot and animate as if it is just being born and then lots of smoke. I will post it here once it is done. Should be fun!!

Thanks for your input

Sam
