Why black line appears around InDesign “sandwich?”
by Mike Cassidy on Sep 25, 2008 at 10:13:46 pm

We have a magazine where, on my cover, we often have a portion of a person’s head laying over the top of the flag or logo. I do this by first placing the general picture (saved as a PSD) on the InDesign page, then placing the flag, then placing a floating piece of the photo (saved with transparency on, and as a PDF). Thus, I have a sandwich, with the logo in the middle. This has worked very well in the past, but lately, when I export my front page as a PDF, I have been getting a black line tracing the outside of the floating piece of art. The first time this happened, the black line didn’t show up when the press ripped the pages. But this last issue, it did.
Any ideas what is happening, and how I can prevent it? Or, is there a better way to create these “sandwiches?”
By the way, I am working on a Mac, OX 10.4.11, with InDesign CS 3.05.

Oops! I meant to say I am using InDesign 5.0.3.
