x Quark user - file management

sorry i don't even know the words to use so finding it hard to search in help files or google but when i was using quark i could [file>open] and it would take me back to the directory that I was last in but ID if i export a pdf to a folder then [file>open] (to place the file onto my template page). It will take me back to a folder that i was working in ages ago. In Quark if i made an eps of the advert I was working on then went [control open] it would take me to the directory where i put the eps to then place on the page. As i'm not used to this i find myself placing the wrong eps/pdf onto my page constantly. Any ideas greatly appreciated.
