My MXO2 Mini that I have been using for two plus years just quit. I re-booted computer and pulled the plug to reset the Matrox. Nothing. It won't restart. The Matrox pane in the system preferences says it can't find hardware. Connections seem OK nothing has changed. Monitor (HDMI says no signal).

It has been fine all along and I used it this AM and all was OK, shut down for a while, came back and it didn't work.

Any suggestions?

TIA

Possible bad Power supply. I would start with that. If not, the whole unit would need replacement/repair.

Thanks for your reply Steve. I left out that the light on the front of the Matrox pulses as usual until I boot the computer and then the blue light blinks rapidly while the computer is on. I think the cable to the computer is secure in the back of the Matrox and the computer. Could it be the card in the computer?

Thanks

Hi Tony,

You should have a 3-year warranty on the MXO2. Just phone Matrox tech support and they can make the determination of what is wrong and help you out with that.

FWIW I have had two Matrox host cables go bad on me, resulting in a similar experience of pulsing light when shutdown and hardware not found when booted. Although the cables that went bad were used on my mobile setup and were connected/disconnected very frequently. Sounds like your setup stays put, just thought I'd throw it out there, if you have access to another host cable, try it.

Thanks, David. That's a big help. I will call tech support and ask. You are right about the system staying put. I think I only disconnected it once, maybe twice win I upgraded the RAM. I hope that's it. I really don't want to have to trash the mini. If I do I will probably move to Blackmagic or AJA because their devices also act as accelerators.

[Tony Breuer] "If I do I will probably move to Blackmagic or AJA because their devices also act as accelerators."

Thanks for the heads up Tony, which apps do they accelerate and in what manner? I know there are differences between all these various manufacturer's IO units, with pros and cons to each device, but I didn't know any of them were offering and form of appreciable acceleration (other than Matrox's own "MAX" H.264 encoding).

Cheers
Andy

The MXO2 devices have always have the "Matrox RT Engine" that provided realtime performance of the Matrox plug-in effects, plus acceleration of certain Adobe effects like Motion and Time Code on the PC.

That said, I believe that extra performance is going away with CS6 since Adobe has changed the way Premiere interacts with third-party cards, now using Adobe Mercury Transmit to hand off video to these cards for output. Of course Matrox MAX will still provide acceleration for H.264 encoding, as that is something different.

With CS6, it's no longer necessary to use vendor-specific Sequence Presets to get output from the Matrox, BlackMagic, AJA or MOTU cards - they will output all Adobe-native sequences using Mercury Transmit, but at the expense of losing some "unique" capabilities that these cards may have brought to the table previously with their custom drivers.

Thanks Jeff. I was actually looking for something that will accelerate the Avid Symphony 6 performance, But I think now I will stick with the Matrox MXO2Mini. It seems I was mistaken about the blackmagic and AJA solutions.

Andy thank YOU for the heads up. Upon reading your post, I tried to remember exactly where I read that some of the Blackmagic and/or AJA products actually accelerated the editing process. I must have been dreaming because I couldn't find it. So in that case if I can't revive my current MXO2 Mini, I will buy another (this time with the MAX encoding which will save me a boatload of time.

Thanks for your advice. It is always helpful.
