Chuck PurnellHardware not found - MXO2 Mini w/ Max

I have my MXO2 Mini w/Max connected correctly and I downloaded the software for it. When I open Final Cut Pro, I see all the new Matrox codecs listed. However when I go into my Macbook Pro's system preferences and click on Matrox MXO2, all the selections in all the tabs are all greyed out. The first INFO tab states my Matrox hardware cannot be found and to check how I have it installed.

I have the host cable going from the PCIexpress card to the HOST on the Mini Max, then running a HDMI cable out of the Mini Max to my HDTV.

Originally I had a DVI to HDMI cable coming out of my laptop to HDMI IN on the Mini Max. After reviewing the instructions in the PDF file, I saw running DVI to HDMI was not needed.

So how do I get the computer to recognize and see that my hardware is hooked up?

Do I need to update any drivers? I just bought the MXO2 about 3 weeks ago now and downloaded the most current drivers aside from the 2.0 version that was just released a couple days ago. I am still using Leopard 10.5.8 on a Macbook Pro laptop.

Thanks,
Chuck

At the top left in the finder do you have the icon for the express slot? On the drop down does it say Matrox Mini greyed out and power off card in black (this is the way it should be)? Which tabs are greyed out in Sys Prefs on Matrox Mini? I have the same setup (working) and mine is a couple weeks old also...

Yea the card icon is over on the right side near my clock and bluetooth icons. In the drop down menu, everything is greyed out but Power off Card is in Black. All the options in the tabs in system prefs are greyed out as well. I am not sure what to do. I just know I spent a good chunk of change for this box and I cant believe its not working or not being recognized.

Hmm... I'd call tech support. Maybe it's something simple or maybe you got a bum unit. Either way, I'd give them a call ASAP so you can return in if need be. Sorry I couldn't be more help and good luck!

Just an odd thought here. I was under the impression that 2.0 requires Snow Leopard. See if you can run the Matrox uninstaller, reboot, download 1.9.1 and install and reboot.

What’s new in this release
Version 2.0 provides the following:
• Support for Mac OS X Snow Leopard only (v10.6.4).

and

Matrox MXO2 system requirements
Matrox MXO2 requires a Mac system or Apple Xserve system with the following configuration:
• Intel-based Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, or Apple Xserve.
• Mac OS X v10.6.4.
• One free PCIe slot on the Mac Pro or Xserve to install the Matrox PCIe host adapter, or one free ExpressCard/34 slot on the MacBook Pro to install the Matrox PCIe host ExpressCard/34 adapter.
• If using MXO2 with Final Cut Studio 2 or later, you need 2 GB of RAM when working with compressed HD and uncompressed SD sources, or 4 GB of RAM when working with uncompressed HD sources.
• We recommend an HDMI monitor that supports 1920 × 1080 for previewing all HD formats, and “dot-by-dot” mode for 1:1 pixel mapping.

The light inside my MXO2 Mini is RED. I was just watching some installation videos on Y.Tube and they have BLUE lights on in theirs. The only thing I do not have compared to what I saw in those videos is a HD deck. I shot everything with a Nikon D90 recorded onto SD cards so no HD deck is needed right now. Do I need to install my DVI to HDMI cable from laptop to box? This is so weird that this thing won't work. I will be calling tech support in the morning.

If you have 2.0 installed it will not work on OS 10.5.8. Do try to go back to 1.9.1.

I never installed 2.0, according to Matrox that is for Snow Leopard only. I am still using Leopard 10.5.8

The RED light indicates that you have an MXO2 model with the MAX option.

The BLUE light indicates that you do NOT have the MAX option.

Are you sure because the one I saw in the video was the model with Max and it was showing a blue light.

Well I have some good news to report. I uninstalled the software and reinstalled it. When I reinstalled it I noticed the original download was only 7mb. When I did it the second time around it was 23.4mb so maybe for some reason the download didn't complete the first time.

My computer FINALLY is recognizing my matrox box!!!

Thanks for the help everyone!

[Chuck Purnell] "Are you sure ... "

Absolutely. The RED LED indicates the unit has MAX hardware installed, the BLUE LED is only in units without MAX.

Yes, I am 100% sure.

We are Matrox resellers, and have both (all) versions here. If the video taled about MAX but showed a blue light, the video was in error.
