CompressHD, ProRes, and Reverse Telecine?
by Jason Scherer on Sep 27, 2009 at 3:44:14 pm

Considering making the investment in the CompressHD card. I've just moved to a new workflow. One step which annoys me is using the HV20 Reverse Telecine workflow from Apple to get "true" 24p footage. Currently, I log the HDV clips in Final Cut, reveal in Finder, move clips into Compressor, and use ProRes for Progressive setting (modified to do a reverse telecine per instructions from Apple support). Import new clips, edit in 24p.

I'm wondering if the CompressHD will speed up the re-encode through Compressor of this process?

Sorry Jason, the CompressHD (aka Matrox MAX) only provides hardware acceleration for H264 encoding, it will not accelerate other tasks.

I've got the same setup. On top of that I usually shoot with a 35mm adapter so my footage is flipped!

Check out JES Deinterlacer. I found it much more straight forward that using compressor, but it still takes time.
