cannot digitize HDV tape
by Sergio Barrozo on May 28, 2009 at 2:13:51 am

Generally I work with SD videos. But now I have a HDV tape recorded in a Sony DV/DVCAM Z1 camera, and I have started a Matrox HD project, but when I try to digitize the tape, the screen in the digitize tool remains black. I can control the deck (Sony HVR-15U), I see timecode running, but the image doesn't appear in the digitize tool screen. I have set the capture to Matrox AVI, and I think all the parameters in the capture dialogue (video and audio) are set ok. I can hear the audio, but I have no video.
How can I figure out what's happening?

You need to tell us a few things. What editing platform are you on? I assume Premiere as you mention AVI. But I don't like to assume. And are you using the Axio?

Matrox has products for Premiere and FCP...

I'm using a PC version of Premiere CS3 (v. 3.2) with Matrox RT.X2 LE.
Today I connected my DV/DVCAM rec/player in the component in of the breakout box and I got image in the Digitize Too, changing the setting in Capture Settings to RTX2. The player continued to be controlled via FireWire, but when I marked IN and OUT to capture IN/OUT automatically, the seeking was erratic and the capture began in a random timecode in.
When I edited the captured video to a sequence, the non-rendered red bar appeared and I had to render all the footage in the timeline. And after rendering, the sequence didn't play smootly. It's strange because I had imported another movie to this project, an AVI movie, and after rendering, this video played smootthly.
I cannot figure out what's happening.
