Hello All,

I have been trying to keep up now and then with the Axio situation. I am a current Digisuite DTV Max owner (running SR - ouch) so as you may surmise, I will probably need to upgrade my system soon. Obviously, Axio is the leader for my potential future dollars. Not because I have any real loyalty to Matrox (DS has been a mixed bag overall), but mostly because of the deal current DS owners are getting (I want to feel that this boardset is worth something) and the fact that I can use current DS timelines and files (this is right, isn't it?). This last feature is huge for me.

The problem is I can't seem to get any TOTAL price information on the ole internet. I understand the price of the boardsets, net the DS owner discount. What does this price include? I am using an older 1.7 MHz dual Xeon. I take it I will have to upgrade the computer. How much additional will this set me back? Is there one approved system the Axio ships with. Is there a approved system list somewhere? Also, when does (or has) the clock start for the 3 months left on the DS owner discount? Also, I will be getting the SD version initially, since I don't do any HD work yet at all. What kind of drive speed will I need for this setup? Will my current Medea VideoRAID RT work at least temporarily? Does this setup support just SCSI or is SATA and Firewire 800 supported?

Anyway, I'm sure some of the answers to these questions are on the Matrox site but I figured I was on a roll asking questions....so...

I guess I could call that Axio answer line also but it is the weekend and all!

Thanks in advance for any answers to these questions,

Steve Soltz

I'm not the sales guy for my company, but I know configuration details...

Our price range seems to be from $20 to 22K for a starter SD system. And that's something that's going to get you SD and make sure you're ready in the future to go to HD.

You have to get a new computer for the whole setup. The Axio is a VERY propriatary system. I'm still digging around in it and I've seen that it's VERY intricate in how all it's put together.

You "could" get an exsisting raid and use that, but I don't know how much of the promised realtime you'll get in SD.

As for the DS Discount... Yes, the clock is running. They want to get people on that quick.

Steve -

Axio turnkey systems run from roughly $13k (SD) to $17k (HD) plus whatever you need in monitors, storage, etc. The DigiSuite trade-up program runs until the end of September (I believe) and amounts to $1500 off the SD, or $2500 of the HD system (and you get to keep the DigiSuite).

Hope that helps ...

[jiri vrozina] "And how much is the Altitude without the computer."

It ranges from US$10k to 17.5k depending on options.

Thanks for the info, everyone.

What I would be looking for is the SD version boardset and the computer (are there several options as far as the box as well?). I would use my current storage and monitors. Does this setup come with deck control standard or is that an option? Are there different graphic boards, memory configurations and processor options?

Thanks again,

Steve Soltz
