How do you create widescreen menus in WS2 when all it will do is output in 4:3?

Isn't there a .ini file or something that needs to be changed? I need your help on this as I need to make up some widescreen menus to go along with the video.

Help me out with this please.

Keith

[KEITH] "How do you create widescreen menus in WS2 when all it will do is output in 4:3?"

This is currently not possible in DVDWS, and since the product is no longer maintained by ULead, it seems very unlikely that you ever will be. For this, and other reasons, I decided some time back to go with a non-Ulead DVD creation application. My experience with that DVD tool later also lead me to abandon Ulead MediaStudio Pro the NLE from this other company as well.

I would love to see Ulead get back into the prosumer market with DVDWS and Media Studio Pro upgraded to the level where the competitive products are, but this seems unlikely at this stage.

Thanks for the reply. I am disappointed to say the least as they did seem to abandon the product. While I like and use a lot of their software and love the ability to work between them all, It is disheartening to know they aren't going to do any updates to WS 2. They seem to have the ability to update all their other software, so much so that way back when they use to send out a new update 1 to every 2 years. Now they are down to approx 1 year before a new release comes out. Or at least that is they way it seems to me. I Have always worked with Photo Impact and no sooner did I upgrade to PI11 then I saw the new release for 12.

Too bad.

HI,

all is not lost. I have been creating 16:9 DVDs & Menus for some time using this software. The trick is that you need to create the DVD Folder on Hard Disk first. The resulting IFO files are then editted using a small utility called IFO Edit. This can be downloaded free of charge. It is widely circulated on the Internet. Just do a Google search or let me know and I will email it to you.

It's easy to use.

Good luck

Stuart

Very glad to see that. Having one little problem, though; perhaps you can give me a pointer in the right direction. I'm reading up on the internal esoterica of DVDs, but am quite a newbie still.

So far I've been able to modify DVD WS2 menus to 16:9 and set the static options. IfoEdit needs to make some corrections to the files first; but after that, the menus work fine, widescreen.

The problem concerns the menus in 4:3 use. When I select letterbox or p-and-s on the DVD player the menu is displayed accordingly; but the geometry of the menu buttons (or text links, etc.) as seen when they are highlighted appears to remain fixed relative to center, unchanged from the widescreen display. In letterbox, they are displaced vertically in proportion to their distance from center; in p-and-s it's the same story except the displacement is horizontal instead.

I'm not quite sure yet exactly how this is determined. Based on my highly inchoate knowledge, I'd guess that it's a matter of the display layer of the menu being scaled according to the mode but the picture mask and highlight layer being left the same, and therefore no longer aligned.

Well, whether that's anywhere near it or not, any help will be much appreciated.

RSimard

Hi: were you ever able to figure out a solution? I'm having the same problem, the button highlights are out of alignment when the DVD is viewed on a 4:3 television; however, everything is fine on a 16:9 television.

Hi,

Unfortunately I was not able to fix the problem. I was told to buy other software...

Hi!

Having the same problem I also downloaded the program IFO Edit because I'd really like to have a 16:9 menu! In order to do so I opened the files "VIDEO_TS.IFO" and "VTS_01_0.IFO". In the file "VIDEO_TS.IFO" I edited the properties of the first attribute below "Video Manager Menu Attributes" and changed it to 16:9. In the file "VTS_01_0.IFO" I edited the properties of the only item there, which is right below "Menu Attributes" and also changed it so 16:9. Additionally I changed the static checkmarks with every option available. To be a little more precise: I tried all kinds of different combinations with the static checkmarks.

Strangely enough having tried all the options, it won't show me the menu in 16:9. When previewing the DVD it will show the size of an 16:9 screen, which is good, BUT the video is still in 4:3. What is the problem here? Please help me, I will be very thankful!
