 | Quality end product not very good!
by Tony4x4 on Jun 28, 2006 at 8:54:18 pm |
Hi there,
I render my video files from VT4 with the following Codec and Resolution :-
DV Video Type 2 (PCM Audio)
NTSC D1 Video Resolution
I then take the rendered file and create my DVDs using DVD Workshop. Now most of my output files are between 90 & 120 mins, so I used the Standard quality compression template.
The problem I am having is that the quality does not seem to be very good, especially when there is movement i.e. when the preacher is standing still the quality is ok, but as soon as he moves it looks like the video is "Pixelated".
Is this normal for Standard? Am I doing something wrong? are there any fine tuning tips that you could give me, to give me a better end product?
Many thanks
Tony

Hi Tony,
Although most of my work has been in PAL, I've found that compressing using DVDWS2 in VBR mode produces lower quality results for moving sequences than CBR. I would recommend setting up a new CBR template and using Dolby AC-3 rather than LPCM for audio. This will free up more space which means you should be able to use a higher bit rate for video. You may also want to try two-pass CBR to get the most out of the system.
Good luck.
Richard

Thanks Richard for the reply.
I must be missing something or we are using two different products! :-)
I don't find any reference to DVDWS2, VBR, CBR or Dolby AC-3!
Is there an add on that you have? I am using Ulead DVD Workshop 2 and I only see Ulead Mpeg.Now Encoder, LPCM Audio, Mpeg Audio & Dolby Digital.
Would appreciate you walking me through this one!
Thanks
Tony

Tony,
Just a confusion over acronyms, I think!
DVDWS2 = Ulead DVD Workshop 2
VBR = Variable Bit Rate
CBR = Constant Bit Rate
Dolby AC-3 = Dolby Digital
If this still causes problems, let me know.

Just my two cents, but I encode my videos to .m2v, and audio to .ac3 using the Mainconcept encoder. The finished DVD video looks superb going that route.

Thanks for your input dax702
I have just discovered Microsofts Encoder and having been playing around with it. I encoded a file that was 30GB into a 4.5GB file that is exceptional quality. I now want to see what happens when I use DVD Workshop to create the DVD.
Thanks again
Tony
