I use iShowU on the mac to record screen captures and it works great. Does anyone know of any software for windows that is similar. If it runs under Vista that would be a plus too.

Camtasia is normally good, unless you're running dual screens and at high resolution. A bug in their program CAN cause it to dump your display driver, making a reinstall necessary.
I've spoken with them about it, but they have not been willing to fix it.
At least not yet ...

I've looked into Camtasia but unfortunately, it's $300. I don't need all the nonsense features like "Smart focus" etc. I just need something to record an area of the screen to a relatively lossless CODEC. iShowU is only $20. It's simple and it records. There must be something cheap and simple like this for windows. Any other ideas?

hi there eric
i have used WM capture
http://www.wmrecorder.com/wm_capture.php to rip streaming videos, but i see it also has a screen capture ability and is not very expensive, and there is a trial version... give it a whirl.
there are probably dozens of alternatives on the PC, so much ricker software choices than on mac...
catcha later
