Viewers not opening in Edit 6.0 with Targa board
by Richard Marcus on May 2, 2008 at 4:05:21 pm

Hello everyone

I have a new problem which I find quite vexing, and would be grateful for any advise.

I am using Edit 6.0 with a Targa RTX board which has been working happily for the last few years.
The other day I noticed thst the date and time were incorrect,so I assumed that the internal battery was flat and so replaced it.
I rebooted the system and all seemed well until I opened a job in Edit. It went all the way except the viewers would not open.
I have uninstalled the Matrox Digidesktop drivers and reinstalled them also uninstalled and reinstalled the Targa drivers. I reinstalled edit all to no avail.

Before I start from scratch does anyone have any suggestions as to the reasons for this problem?

Thanks

Richard Marcus

Hi Richard -

Sorry to tell you that all that uninstalling and reinstalling was ... in fact ... wasted time.

The problem is that when your CMOS lost the date (due to the dead battery), it also lost all the custom system settings that your integrator put into it to make your system work properly.

Those settings would depend on the motherboard you have. You should probably contact your dealer (or whoever built the system). If you are not able to do that, then give us all the necessary info here and we can try to help you make the proper settings.

Hello Lyn

My dealer has long long gone.

The motherboard is a a Super MicroP6DBS

The CMOS is AMIBIOS Vers 2.5

I upgraded to Edit 6.0 a few years ago myself with no problems.

I would be most grateful for any suggestions

I am in New York City

Many thanks

Dick

Dick -

I'm out of the office till Monday, but will look up the BIOS settings for that mobo when I get back - unless someone else here is using the same model, and can chime in with their settings.

Anyone??

Hello Lyn

Thank you for taking the time to help.

One of the interesting things I have noticed is that the Targa board and the Digidesktop do not seem to be communicating. For example the Digiview in the Matrox program will not open and just hangs. Other than that both boards seem to be operating normally.

I look forward to your comments

Thanks

Dick -

I have not yet located the P6DBS BIOS settings ... but one quick question ...

When you said the viewers did not open, what do you mean?

Do you mean that you don't have any viewer windows on the screen, or you do have them but they just don't show any video?

If it's the latter, do they show a still image ... sometimes?

And if so, you just need to enable "full motion video on ... " (don't remember the exact wording) in the dialog box.

Hello Lyn

When I open Edit all the job loads in except the last heading which ia labeled viewers, and all that happens is the hour glass keeps turning and Edit does not open. Then I have to log off in order to get back to the main menu.

Thanks

Dick -

So Edit doesn't actually finish loading at all ... it's not *just* a viewer issue ... correct?

A few questions ...

1) What happens if you try to create a new job ... instead of loading an old one?

2) When you reinstalled Edit, did you install the 6.0.2.47a patch? Do you have it?

3) Did Paul Frantellizi build this system (IDMNYC)? Cuz knowing that would help (he and I did most things the same).

4) Can you go into the Windows Diagnostics (under Administrative Tools), check the Resources tab, and see what IRQ numbers (interrupts) are being used ... and by what components?

If you'd rather take this offline, give me a call tomorrow (Tuesday).

Hello Lyn

Once again many thanks for your help with my problems.

It turned out, as you suggested, to be IRQ setup conflicts.

Thank You

Dick Marcus

Dick -

Happy to be able to help ... and also to re-activate the otherwise-dormant Edit* brain cells.

I don't recall if we verified that you have the patch installed. If you check the version number in Edit, ir should show up as 6.0.2.47a.

If not, you can download the patch at:
