Problems with a LaCie disc
by Fredrik Brofalk on Apr 29, 2008 at 4:32:47 pm

Hi!
I have a LaCie Disc for a laptop Video edting application (AVID Liquid) When i connected the disc to the laptops own 4 pin firewire port i had some problems with the disc just stop working. Found out that the port had a minor mecanical problem so i bought a PICMA card with 3 6-pin firewire ports. First all thing whent smotly but after a week the disc produced several warning messenges and showed corrpted files and folders after a rebot. When i conncet the disc to my USB ports i have no problems at all.
Anyone with a clue? Need firewire connction when capture video from tape. Using USB i randomly get dropped frames.

I would first try different firewire cables. They seem to be easy to break. Might be smart to purchase or borrow several and test for results with different brands. Also try each of the three different plugs on your card (if you haven't tried that already.)
It's also a good idea to use your fw ports on your PC card for your drives and the fw port on the computer for tape machines. Running both tape machine and drive off same card can cause some problems.
Good luck.
